Google Just Launched A Brand New OS

Android Wear has ceased to exist, and the new Wear OS has just been born. However, we are facing exactly the same Google operating system for smartwatches.

Now Android Wear is renamed Wear OS by Google. After last year’s 2.0 update, it will skip Wear OS in the smartwatches that support it. Initially, no news arrives to the system, although we imagine that they will do so in the future.

The new name makes good sense at the marketing level. The third part of the users of smartwatches with the software of Google have an iPhone, and the fashion brands bet more on the smartwatches than the technological ones.

The result is that, in spite of the potential of the brand “Android”, in the smartwatches of Google could suppose a ballast. Wears OS by Google is the new name, and a logo has also been released.

Smartwatches that will update to Wear OS

The updates will be released in the “next days and weeks”, but nothing has been said about new features. Hopefully with Android P improvements will come, but that will still take months.

Meanwhile, we do know the watches that will receive Wear OS. Among the technological brands, there are only 5 models, since Samsung uses its own operating system. These are the smartwatches:-

  • Huawei Watch 2
  • LG Watch Sport and Watch Style
  • ZTE Quartz
  • Misfit Vapor

Among the fashion brands, there are more smartwatches that Wear OS will have. For them, the new denomination makes sense, because many of their customers use an iPhone, and the term “Android” could take them back.

It is clear that the tech giant Google believes in smartwatches as fashion accessories and not so much as purely technological gadgets, in view of the following list:-

  • Casio Pro Trek Smart and Smart Outdoor Watch
  • Diesel Full Guard
  • Emporio Armani Connected
  • Fossil Q Control, Q Explorist, Q Founder 2.0, Q Marshal, Q Venture and Q Wander
  • Guess Connect
  • Gc Connect
  • Hugo Boss Boss Touch
  • Kate Spade Scallop
  • Louis Vuitton Tambour
  • Michael Kors Access Bradshaw, Access Dylan, Access Grayson and Sofie
  • Montblanc Summit
  • Movado Connect
  • Mobvoi Ticwatch S & E
  • Nixon Mission
  • Polar M600
  • Skagen Falster Smartwatch
  • TAG Heuer Connected Modular 41 and Connected Modular 45
  • Tommy Hilfiger 24/7 You

The operation with respect to Android Wear has not changed. Google Assistant remains key in smartwatches, whose small touch screen makes it difficult to manage. The same apps are
supported, there is an important focus on fitness, and also on simple functions such as mobile notifications and day-to-day information.

So the fundamental change is that “Android” leaves the name and enters “OS”. In the end, the goal of Wear OS is to attract the public who saw the name of Android as something negative in their watch.
