Here’s What the “i” in Apple’s iPhone Stands For: We are sure that on some occasions you might have asked what is the actual meaning of “i” that Apple includes in its products like iPad, iPod, iPhone etc. In fact, most of the Popular Apple products start with this vowel.
Have you ever imagined what does ‘i’ really mean? Why ‘i’ always present before the word phone in an iPhone? iPhone might be a most popular device in the world but there are many who still don’t know what the ‘i’ in Apple’s products stand for.
Let’s recall the special Apple event that held in 1998. Steve Jobs introduced the iMac. Steve Jobs explained the real connection between the ‘i’ and the ‘Mac’. Steve Jobs said “iMac comes from the marriage of the excitement of the internet with the simplicity of Macintosh”
“We are targeting this for the no. 1 use that consumers tell us they want a computer for, which is to get on the Internet simply and fast. And that is what this product is targeted for”
In 1998, the “i” in the iMac was synonymous with the internet. Jobs followed these statements with a slide that broadened the meaning of what the “i” means to Apple.
Not only these, Steve Jobs also showed the slides regarding the Apple’s prefix “i” and said that it also stood for an Individual, Instruct, Inform and Inspire.
But, in recent times, Apple had chosen to remove the ‘i’ prefix from its product. We now have ‘Apple Watch’ and ‘Apple TV’. This is probably because we are now well aware of the fact that our devices connect to the internet.
