This stands for Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display. The LCD display is made up of “liquid crystals”. These are the transparent materials that become opaque when they receive electric current.
The Liquid crystals are present inside pixels which are formed by red, green and blue (RGB) colors. For liquid crystals to form colors, they need an electric current which is emitted by the transistors. Now it’s time for TFT (Thin film transistors) that controls each and every pixel present on the screen through a deposit of a thin film.
To know IPS, we need to understand Twisted Nematic (TN). Well, LCD displays use a technology known as Twisted Nematic which makes the liquid crystal in a twisted structure.
However, because of the twisted structure, the colors varied according to the angel they were looked at. So, IPS technology was made. With the help of IPS (In-plane switching) technology, the liquid crystals are organized horizontally making it flat.
However, this type of display costs a lot because the making is expensive.
AMOLED or Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode also uses TFT technology. However, AMOLED screens are able to light up and remove the pixels three times faster compared to LCD screen. With this, there is a more fluid display of colors in movies and videos that have a lot of action, for example. In addition, the illumination of this screen can be up to 150% better than in other screens.
However, TFT makes the AMOLED Screen flicker. You might have experienced the screen flickering issue while using AMOLED display. The problem is seen when users try to minimize the brightness level of the smartphone.
